iPad, Adam Tablet, Slate … WTF ?

I don’t know about you but the recent craze for tablets is nothing short of stunning to me.

1’st off I think the iPad while looking cool stinks big times.

then the run of other companies to try to match the tech and throwing out tablets en mass is just ridicules. Here are some examples :

Slate
Adam Table
Web Tablet

(Though in all fairness the Web Tablet was before the iPad )

And finally I believe what it should be and what I would want to have is something more like the OLPC 2.0. Imaging an Apple product, which you can fold like a netbook, open like a tablet, and read books like … well a book.

Think about how you set it on your desk and have a digital picture frame. What are the possibilities if both displays have a multi touch interface ?

Here are my spec requirement:

  • I WANT this thing to have solar panels on the back with a 3Mega pixels camera (per panel), 500Gig hard drive and a dual core or better CPU. 4GB ram
  • The resolution I demand on this device has to be 2 x 1376×800 or better 1600×1200.
  • Wifi, bluetooth included, 3G optional.
  • You can connect each side of the device to another pane of the same make. A solid mechanical slide and snap connection.
  • The device should be able to be configured to work in tandem with other devices such that you can put four of those devices next to each other and watch a movie on one big screen.
  • You start with one device and two panes and you should be able to interconnect 16 of them at a time for either display or computing sharing. Build your own cool super computer and put grid computing to work.
  • A nice to have would be to also be able to detach both displays and play games against each other, wirelesly. Or to have a friend use one side surfing the web while you use the other side. Two tablets in one. What a concept !

Now this would have been revelutionary and not like the iPad evolutionary.
