SourceForge censoring.
Posted by admin on January 27th, 2010 filed in blogWhy did it come to this ?
SourceForge was forced to deny service to the American anti-terrorism sanction list. Phew, that is wrong on so many levels.
1) Free Speech: Open Source is a way of expressing yourself.
2) Contributors: What happens to the code that was contributed by people from these countries ? They are being robbed of their labor point blank.
3) Punishment of the population and not of the government itself.
4) Destruction of the meaning of Open Source and in more generic terms of the FLOSS movement.
Guys, this is what we have fought for all along. Now imaging this would go just a step further. The freedom of downloading could disappear with one court ruling.
BTW: ZDNet, your ads stink. I cant read half the article and the close button on the advertising is NOT working. I know you are tailord to the other OS but for crying out loud why would I go back to your site when I get soooooo frustrated with it ?
As a side note, I am not as strict in my thinking about “Free” wrt Open Source in general but this one is a big deal IMHO.
